The Hollow Crown - Reaction post - Henry V

I have not seen it yet, despite the best efforts of my Tumblr dash to make .gifsets of the entire episode. Tonight! But as for you, how did you feel about the final installment of The Hollow Crown?

Tom Hiddleston and Thea Sharrock, The Hollow Crown, Henry V
Director Thea Sharrock with Tom Hiddleston (King Henry V)

Keysmashing, essays, macros, .gifs, declarations of emotion, proposals of marriage, rants, all reactions welcome here.

My immediate gut reaction is that I was torn, and wanted to like it more than I did. Or rather, I was set on loving it and only liked it. Part of it was probably that I have the full play so fresh in my mind - I think I need to watch it again now that I know what to expect. There were parts (especially in the Agincourt battle) that I found jarring, where I could see what the director was going for but that just didn't work for me.

Random thoughts:

I thought Tom Hiddleston worked much, much better as King Harry than as the rogue Prince Hal! There were moments of pure perfection.

Loved Pistol.

Henry's message to the Dauphin after he receives the tennis balls remains one of my favourite speeches in the play.

Oh, absolutely! I thought about posting it here initially, but didn't know if it'd be interesting to people who may not have seen the stuff I was comparing The Hollow Crown to. But yeah, I'll have a look at my ramblings and try to cut them a little shorter before I post them here, heh.
